Vol 17-19 THE PLAY PICTORIAL Antique Theater MAX FACTOR
Three (3) bound volumes of the
English Theater publication The Play Pictorial, circa 1910,
from the Max Factor Collection.
We are pleased to present three (3)
bound volumes of The Play Pictorial, a monthly
English Theater Publication. These volumes date to the early
1900's and were part of the Max Factor Company Collection
at the Max Factor Museum in Hollywood, California.
The Max Factor Company was founded
in 1909 and was an early pioneer in Stage and Film Make-up.
They maintained a museum collection for many years. The company
was sold to Procter & Gamble in 1991 which sold the
museum (and Max Factor building in Hollywood) in 1996.
The building reopened in 2002 as The Hollywood History Museum.
The Max Factor collection of The Play Pictorial
was sold by the museum during the 2010-2011 time period. We
now own them and are pleased to offer these one-of-a-kind volumes
for your consideration.
Each volume includes six issues of
The Play Pictorial monthly magazine. The magazine
is noteworthy for the interesting pictures it includes, most
showing scenes from various West End productions of the time.
Unlike typical period photographs, the pictures in the magazine
show animated actors and actresses, mostly in costume. There
are also sketches, song scores, portraits, and occasional colored
plates. The material is interesting not only for the great theatrical
content, but also for the view it provides of life in the early
