Vintage WORLD WAR II WW II 2 US NAVY GUNNER'S QUADRANT Naval Gunnery Bronze Cannon Military Sighting Device
A US Navy World War II vintage gunner's quadrant.
Truly an outstanding addition to any maritime or naval collection, we present this genuine US Navy gunner's quadrant for your consideration. Made of brass, this sighting device would have been used in conjunction with a gunnery chart. We are not sure what kind of gun, however. It has the letters 'NNSY' on its base, which we have found stands for Newport Naval Shipyard, most likely the place it was issued and possibly constructed.
Whatever its history, this quadrant has survived brilliantly to the present day. Its gauges are clearly marked all these years later, and the dial can be turned to adjust the sight, as well as a lever release that allows full free movement up and down the sight.
The sight has been mounted for display on a 13 inch long metal piece, with the device actually being 8 3/4 inches long, 10 3/4 inches high and 2 1/8 inches wide. It weighs 18 3/4 pounds.
We estimate this item is over 65 years old. It has the predictable oxidation and slight surface rust to its steel parts. It is constructed of solid metal, is very heavy, and has weathered the years quite nicely. As far as we can tell, the device works as it was designed to.
For Navy collectors, enthusiasts, and museums, this gunnery device is a great buy!
