A lot of vintage Las Vegas memorabilia,
including a Stardust Casino matchbook, Sands ashtray, and a
never used lighter from The Mint.
For the Vegas collector, this lot
is a great buy. We have for your consideration a genuine Sands
ashtray, Stardust Hotel and Casino matchbook (with all matches
contained therein) as well as a vintage Madison brand lighter
from The Mint Downtown Las Vegas. The lighter, it should be
noted, has never been used, had lighter fluid in it, or seldom
has been out of its plastic case. It is a great find for any
The Mint Las Vegas was a hotel and
casino in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. Opened in 1957, a 26-story
hotel tower was added in 1965. In 1988, The Mint was sold and
became part of Binion's Horseshoe. The Mint was the sponsor
of the Mint 400, the largest off road race from the mid-1960s
to the mid-1980s. The Mint was made famous (or infamous) as
the first night's stay in Hunter S. Thompson and Oscar Acosta's
legendary 1971 weekend trip to Las Vegas, immortalized in Thompson's
novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. According to the book,
they stayed in room 1850.
The ashtray measures 4 1/2 inches
in diameter, while the matchbook is 2 X 1 7/8 inches. The actual
lighter, outside the case, measures 1 3/4 inches high by 2 inches
long and is only 3/8 inch wide. The lot weighs 7.8 ounces.
All three of these items are in very
good condition. The matchbook is complete and still has vibrant
coloring, the ashtray has only minor scratches, while the lighter
has never seen use.
This lot is the perfect gift for any
vintage Vegas collector!
