MELTOX Traditions 1942 LOTUS CALIFORNIA
POTTERY 14 pc Lot Bowls Plates Mug RARE Poppytrail
14 piece lot of solid color dinnerware produced by METLOX in their later years,
For your consideration
here, we have a lot of solid color dinnerware, produced by Metlox Potteries in
the late 1980s. These include some of the last lines introduced by Metlox.
solid color patterns were produced in response to the resurgent popularity of
vintage solid color dinnerware, such as Fiesta or Bauer Ringware, as well as the
popularity of the Metlox's new Colorstax line. Some proved more popular than others,
but they kept the company afloat until their closure in 1989.
these lines were only available for a few years (until Metlox's closure), they
have become rarer than many other Metlox lines, despite being much newer..
First, we a have a striking large 10" inch vegetable bowl in the "1942"
pattern, Fern Green color. The "1942" pattern is actually a 1985 recreation
of the the 1930s/1940s Metlox Poppytrail pattern "Yorkshire". This was
very forward thinking for Metlox, as they were anticipating the interest and collectability
of the vintage Poppytrail patterns! The bowl is in excellent condition, with no
chips or cracks and only the very light beginnings of crazing, as well as very
minor scuffs on the base.
we have a set of 2 Lotus salad plates in the Yellow color. Lotus was a popular,
delicate pattern, produced from 1974 until Metlox's demise in 1989. One plate
has a minor glaze flake (see pictures) and the other has a very minor glaze imperfection.
Otherwise, the plates are in great condition with no chips cracks or crazing.
Next, we have a set of 10 Cereal bowls from the "Traditions" Pattern,
another solid color pattern that was introduced in 1985. This pattern was one
of the last based on the classic "American Tradition" shape, which was
introduced in the late 1960s. The colors are as follows:
Bowls - Sky Blue
3 Bowls - Jade Green
1 Bowl - Rose
1 Bowl - Plum
Bowl - Lilac
1 Bowl - Canary
of the bowls appear to have minor glaze and color imperfections and minor glaze
flakes on the base (see pictures). These might have been factory seconds that
were purchased at the factory (which was located in Manhattan Beach, just a couple
miles from were we are in El Segundo, CA) The canary bowl also has one chip on
the base. Overall, these imperfections are relatively minor and add to the hand
made charm of the pieces. There are no cracks or crazing, and are still very much
Lastly, we have a handsome
mug that was part of the mid- 1980's Metlox giftware line. It is in a "Apricot" Colorstax color, but is a wider, shorter and simpler shape then the Colorstax Mugs. It is in perfect shape, and only has one tiny pinhole in the glaze
in the bottom of the inside of the mug.
Don't miss out on adding these great Metlox pieces to your collection! It will
make a beautiful and collectable addition to your everyday dinnerware!
