4 ANTIQUE Book MASTERPIECES In COLOUR Da VINCI Millet GEROME Tintoretto

For your viewing pleasure we have a lovely Collection of 4 Antique Art Books....

We have here another wonderful find in this beautiful group of 4 Hard Cover Antique Art Books. They each measure - in inches - about 6 x 8 1/4. The original owner, a Claude A. Lehmann carefully signed all of these lovely books with his name, address in Valparaiso, Ind. (Indiana) as well as the date of October 26, '12.

Three of the Books still bear his own Library Sticker showing his imprinted name as well as the Catalogue Number he assigned to each book. Each one is further described as follows:

Leonardo da Vinci - Masterpieces in Colour

By Maurice W. Brockwell Ilustrated with Eight Reproductions in Colour and Edited by T. Leman Hare. London: T.C. & E.C. Jack - New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co.

Book includes 80 pages of biographical information as well as the beautiful Colour Plates.

Tintoretto - Masterpieces in Colour

By S. L. Bensusan - Illustrated with Eight Reproductions in Colour and also edited by T. Leman Hare London: T.C. & E.C. Jack New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co.

The opening remarks tell us that Tintoretto's name was actually Jacopo and that he was born to Battista Robusti, a cloth-dyer in Venice. Because of this, the child became known as 'tintoretto' - Little Dyer.

Millet - Masterpieces in Colour

By Percy M. Turner - Illustrated with Eight Reproductions in Colour. London: t.C. & E. C. Jack New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co. T. Leman Hare was the editor of this book as well.

Gerome - Masterpieces in Colour

By Albert Keim - Translated from the French by Frederic Taber Cooper - Illustrated with Eight reproductions in Colour - Frederick A. Stokes Company New York - Publishers. This book was edited by M. Henry Roujon.

Further information we see is the Copyright date of 1912 by Frederick A. Stokes Company.

The Plimpton Press

(W D O)

Norwood Mass. U.S.A.

In the lower right corner on the reverse side of the colour plate facing the title page, we see the following: "Pierre LaFitte & Cie. Paris"

Although we are not book appraisers, we feel that this group of 4 books would most likely fall into the fair to good category. The spines and pages are all quite intact although there is surface wear to the edges and some age-related discoloration to some pages. In addition, the color picture on the Leonardo da Vinci book's front cover is torn.

That being said, these lovely Antique Books are quite a treasure and should be a fantastic addition to your collection. They can only continue increasing in value as more and more time goes by bringing you many hours of reading and viewing pleasure.

How nice to have this for yourself - or - as a treasured and well-appreciated gift for that very special person in your life!
