H. MILLER NO. 1 ELECTRIC LAMP Vintage WW2 Belt Light Flashlight w/ ORIGINAL BOX
A World War II era Electric Lamp from H. Miller in Birmingham, England.
We are pleased to present this vintage H. Miller & Co. No. 1 Electric Lamp for your consideration. It dates to World War II, circa 1941, and has a Blackout Shield on the front which can quickly pivot down and block the light at the first sound of enemy bombers. A rotating filter/lense for the light allows the choice of either red or clear. The back has a clip designed to fit over a belt, for easy transport. On the top is a spring loaded button, used to turn the light on, but also usable to send visible Morse Code messages. Included with the light is the original factory box, as shown in the pictures.
Access to the battery compartment is by pulling out the handle sides, then removing the top lid (see picture 7). We are not sure what size battery is used. A bulb is visible in the socket (viewed through the clear lense), but we do not know if it is still in working order (see picture 6).
The Box measures 4-1/2 inches high, 4 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches deep. With the Lamp, the total weight is 12.5 ounces. The Lamp is marked LAMPS ELECTRIC No. 1 on the belt clip, with the H. Miller M in a circle logo (see picture 5).
The condition of the Lamp is good to very good. The original green paint is substantially intact, with scattered areas of surface rust as shown in the pictures. The interior has an area of rust at one side of the bottom, but looks pretty good, without any signs of battery leakage. Once the handle was removed, the top lid came off without any difficulty. The knob on the front was a little tight to turn at first, but we gave it a few drops of clock oil, which made it turn much easier. The spring-loaded button on the top works well. Although there is some surface wear, the Lamp is free of any dings, dents, or other obvious damage. The Box shows moderate to heavy wear, but retains its shape and graphics on the two ends. All pictures show the actual Lamp and Box you will receive.
This is a nice example of an original WW2 era Electric Lamp from England, complete with its hard-to-find intact product box. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
