C. EASTGATE & SON Vintage RAILROAD SIGNAL LANTERN Intact Glass + Burner RED BLUE
A World War II era Railroad Signal Lantern.
We are pleased to present this World War II era Railroad Signal Lantern for your consideration. Despite missing a product ID plate, we've identified it as a C. Eastgate & Son model from England, due to its unique features which include dual glass lenses on a movable interior piece, allowing for different colored signals. The custom burner inside the Lantern comes from Spain, and is marked on its top that it was manufactured in Talleres San Cristobal (see picture 9).
The Signal Lantern measures 14-1/2 inches high, 9 inches wide, and 5 inches deep. It weighs 3 pounds 14 ounces.
The condition of the Lantern is good. The exterior shows rust and crazed to flaky black paint, but is mechanically intact. The front beveled glass has a few shallow scratches (see picture 11), but is crack and chip free. The interior colored & curved glass pieces are both intact. The Lantern disassembled into separate pieces (as shown in picture 4) without any difficulty. The interior rotating section turned without undue effort. No attempt was made to fill or light the original burner. All-in-all, this looks like a good restoration unit, but it offers a lot of charm and decorative possibilities as-is, with its current aged patina. All pictures show the actual Signal Lantern that you will receive.
