Antique J. Hoover Philadelphia Chromolithograph Framed Print
Antique framed chromolithograph
print, J. Hoover Philadelphia. Dated 1894. Another BAGGAGE BATTLES
We are very pleased to be able to
be able to offer for your consideration this antique print.
While the bosses Sally & Martin
Laurence were in Minneapolis taping an auction for the Travel
Channel show Baggage Battles, they found, and brought home this
antique print. This print is framed in a black lacquer frame
that may be as old as the print itself. The print is a chromolithgraphic
print produced by J. Hoover of Philadelphia. The print is a
very pastoral scene of a cottage nestled amongst trees in the
mid ground, in the fore ground there is a stream complete with
a man perched on a rock and fishing.
The frame that holds this print is
19 1/2 inches wide, by 17 1/2 inches tall, and 3/4 of an inch
thick. This print weighs approximately 3 pounds 4.5 ounces.
Condition- The overall condition of
this print is good, but there are some flaws we must point out.
At the top right corner of the frame, approximately 3 inches
of the frame has been chipped away (see picture). The backing
looks to be cardboard, and should be replaced with an acid free
board. The print has yellowed a bit, and there is a darkening
in the paper, that looks like a shadow, just right of center,
along the top edge. But overall, this is still a very beautiful
example of this print technique.
If you are a collector of antique
chromolithgraphic prints, this J.Hoover print will make a fantastic
addition to your collection.
